| About Acadiensis | Table of Contents |
Acadiensis, a "quarterly devoted to the interests of the Maritime Provinces of Canada", was published and printed in Saint John, New Brunswick by David Russell Jack, under the auspices of the Acadian Society. It began in January 1901 and a subscription cost one dollar per year.
Acadiensis ceased publication in October 1908. It was not, in the words of D.R. Jack, "a financial success" and ran a deficit of some $200 to $300 per year, a "burthen" borne by Jack. It was, however, a literary and historical success, for it covered big events in our region's history and minutia with equal care, presenting the interested reader with bits of knowledge about our past that might be otherwise lost or forgotten.
The Ward Chipman Library holds a number of issues of Acadiensis which are in somewhat fragile condition. The purpose of this list is to assist students and faculty in determining which issue or issues they may require for research without the necessity of handling every issue. It is a limited list in that it covers only those issues held by WCL. Acadiensis has been indexed in conjunction with other early New Brunswick periodical literature in other works, notably the New Brunswick History Checklist.
